Founding Professor

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Professor Joao Paulo de Fatima Alves Ferreira started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 11 years old. He passed through all of his belt levels in 12 years, and was awarded his black belt under Alliance Black Belt Professor Tiago Rocha.

Professor Joao Paulo has been competing his entire jiu jitsu career with the some of the most elite jiu jitsu athletes. After competing in the Brazilian UFC trials, Joao Paulo decided to move his training and teaching to America.

Joao Paulo has a great passion for teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to his students. Whether his students are looking for fitness training, self-defense, or to become the next world champions, he is there devoting all of his time and attention to them, on and off the mat.

Professor JP takes time and care into developing the lesson plans for beginner and advanced level students. While being a dedicated Professor, JP is also focused on actively competing at the highest levels of competition in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Ian Valdivia

Coach

A BJJ purple-belt ranked instructor, has trained, competed and taught Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2015. Ian Valdivia, a graduate of the George Mason School of Management with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, has owned and operated his solo tax practice in Baltimore, Maryland and now in Culpeper, Virginia.

Coach Ian is married to his loving wife and is father to his three loving children. Ian Valdivia will bring as owner/operator of Agoge Culpeper a service representing his past success teaching jiu jitsu to young children and his dedication to spread the martial art.

He will be with the students every step of the way to help them reach their individual goals (and maybe even reach some new goals they never thought possible).

Gabriel Moreira

Professor

Professor Gabriel comes to us from Patos de Minas, Brazil. He has over 17 years experience in Martial Arts. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under professor Emerson Nascimento, a Black Belt in Kick Boxing and graduated with a bachelors degree in Physical Education from the University Center of Patos de Minas. He has certifications from the Kyra Gracie Kore School (with a specialty in children's jiu jitsu) as well as Core 360 schools (functional mobility training and flow methodology).

Professor Gabriel has a passion for assisting individuals achieve their full potential personally and with the use of martial arts. He comes to the United States along with his loving wife, Andressa. He maintains the principles and values of jiu-jitsu and the Agoge Academies and looks forward to training, learning and growing with you as we reach big goals together!
